Compressor station - infrastructure and equipment
Basic parameters and description of the project:
  • compressor rating: 30 MW.
The investment project, together with the Polish section of the Poland-Slovakia gas pipeline makes part of the construction of the Poland – Slovakia interconnection.

Project status:
  • engineering phase was completed in May 2017 and concluded with obtaining a building permit decision,
  • completed in 2021.

Project location:
The facility is located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, in Strachocina on the territory of the municipality of Sanok.

Benefits

The project will be a vital component in the implementation of the North-South Gas Corridor concept, and its role will be to:
  • strengthen the ability to meet the gas demand of domestic consumers by establishing a new transport route from the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, and access to a new gas source,
  • secure gas supplies in emergency situations, in the view of the shrinking supply options from Ukraine,
  • bring gas to the south-eastern part of Poland where extensive transmission system and storage infrastructure.
 The municipality will benefit from the local taxes to be paid annually by GAZ-SYSTEM.

  • Building Contractor was: Control Process S.A.
  • Investor's Supervision Contractor was: SGS Polska Sp. z o.o.

Co-financing by the European Union

The investment has received funding from the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme.

The maximum amount of co-financing under the agreement was nearly 12.5 million Euro.

Project of Common Interest (PCI)

The European Commission has granted the PCI (Project of Common Interest) status to the project. More information on the significance of the PCI status for the development of gas transmission infrastructure can be found in the  dedicated section on PCI projects.

Environmental consultations
The Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Rzeszów announced the initiation of proceedings to issue a decision on environmental conditions for a project titled: “The construction of a gas interconnection between the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic together with the infrastructure necessary for its operation territory of Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland Voivodeship together with a distribution and measurement point Strachocina, the Strachocina gas compressor station”.

Environmental decision
On 23 September 2016, the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Rzeszów issued a decision on environmental conditions for the Strachocina Compressor Station i.e. the investment project titled: “The construction of a gas interconnection between the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic together with the infrastructure necessary for its operation territory of Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland Voivodeship together with a distribution and measurement point Strachocina, the Strachocina gas compressor station".

Decision on location
On 6 December 2016, the Podkarpackie Voivode issued a decision on the location of the Strachocina Compressor Station, i.e. the investment project titled: “The construction of a gas interconnection between the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic together with the infrastructure necessary for its operation territory of Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland Voivodeship together with a distribution and measurement point Strachocina, the Strachocina gas compressor station”.

Building permit decision
On 28 April 2017, the Podkarpackie Voivode issued a decision on the building permit for the Strachocina Compressor Station, i.e. the investment project titled:  “The construction of a gas interconnection between the transmission systems of the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic together with the infrastructure necessary for its operation territory of Podkarpackie and Lesser Poland Voivodeship together with a distribution and measurement point Strachocina, the Strachocina gas compressor station”.

Compensation payments

Under a special act regulating gas infrastructure projects, compensation payments are guaranteed to the owners of properties affected by the project development.

The compensation payment process is carried out in accordance with an administrative procedure, under the supervision of the competent Voivode. First, an independent expert is commissioned to carry out an assessment, which is the basis for determining the amount of compensation. Upon completion of the construction process, the Voivode issues an administrative decision specifying the amount of compensation due.
