Safety during the construction and operation

GAZ- SYSTEM S.A. complies with all safety procedures in respect of the supervision over new transmission pipelines being under construction. The contracts for performance of works are concluded with experienced, specialised and professional entities that apply the latest and proven technologies, using the best available materials and state-of-the-art safety systems. All works are carried out in accordance with Polish legal regulations.

The proper delivery of the construction projects is supervised by both the investment contractor (site manager, heads of individual sections) as well as external company appointed by the investor to perform the so-called investor’s project supervision (supervision inspectors for individual disciplines). The Construction Contractor and the Investor Supervision Contractor perform their technical on the site independently in compliance with relevant provisions of construction law.
 
The elements of the infrastructure under construction shall be subjected to the various types of examinations and tests, as specified in the relevant standards and legal regulations. Before obtaining a permit to operate, pipelines undergo pressure testing for strength and tightness, as well as special tests (the so-called stress tests), carried out with involvement from the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT), as well as technical and final acceptance after the initial gas fill and commissioning. The State Sanitary Inspectorate and the National Fire Service issue their respective opinions on the compliance of the gas pipeline project. A use permit is issued by the competent Voivode after the projects has been inspected by the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Construction Supervision

Environmental care

When carrying out its investment projects GAZ-SYSTEM respects the rights of all stakeholders and is particularly concerned about safety and the environment. The conformity of the installed equipment with all the conditions required by current standards and regulations, e.g. in respect of pollutant emissions and noise levels is ensured As a responsible investor, GAZ-SYSTEM undertakes measures to minimise the impact on the neighbouring areas and natural environment by:
  • Choosing the optimum time for carrying out construction works with due regard to the periods of animal breeding and migration.
  • Avoiding of sites of special natural value.
  • Using of extra safety measures, directional drilling, best-in-class proven technologies. The potential impact on the neighbouring areas and natural environment is related to the construction process and will be temporary in nature, involving e.g. transport and equipment operation.
