GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and a Ukrainian gas pipeline operator “Ukrtransgaz” have signed a cooperation agreement
Polish and Ukrainian transmission system operators - GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and PJSC “UKRTRANSGAZ” signed a cooperation agreement on 17 December 2014. The main purpose of the agreement is to establish the principles of cooperation in the preparation and analyzes of the investments required for the development of cross-border transmission capacity between Poland and Ukraine. A feasibility study will be prepared as a part of the agreement, which will constitute the basis for making further decisions on the development of the transmission systems of both countries. The integration of the Polish transmission system with the Ukrainian system is part of the North-South Corridor connecting the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe through the transmission systems of the individual countries and cross-border interconnections. The purpose of this integration is to create a flexibly operating transmission infrastructure in the individual countries connecting Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States. GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. has already started to make investments in the Polish transmission system within the framework of the North-South gas corridor. The transmission system will be extended in the western, southern and eastern parts of Poland within the framework of these activities. These investments have been classified by the European Commission as Projects of Common Interest (PCI). GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. has started providing gas transportation services through the Hermanowice point of interconnect to Ukraine from 1 November 2012. The service is currently provided on an interruptible basis, which means that it may be interrupted or limited due to gas flow conditions prevailing in the Polish or Ukrainian networks.. The maximum technical capacity of the transmission of gas through the Hermanowice point of interconnect to Ukraine, in favourable technical conditions of the spread of gas, is currently up to approximately 1.5 billion bcm/year.
