GAZ-SYSTEM completed the expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście

The comprehensive facility expansion, involving the installation of additional vaporisers, the construction of a second jetty and erection of the third in-process LNG storage tank resulted in the increase of annual regasification capacity of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście up to 8.3 bcm as of 1 January 2025.
- The expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is a strong evidence that Poland is consistently pursuing its strategy of diversifying gas supplies and strengthening its energy security. This investment project bolsters our independence even more, which is pivotal in the dynamically changing geopolitical situation. As a strategic element of the domestic energy infrastructure, the LNG terminal in Świnoujście provides access to gas markets and guarantees flexibility of supply. On this occasion, I would like to thank everyone involved in the implementation of this project for their efforts and determination in the face of challenging conditions, said Marzena Czarnecka, Minister of Industry.
- The expansion of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is a tangible result of Poland's long-term strategy aimed at building a robust, sustainable and flexible energy infrastructure, ensuring natural gas supplies to Poland from various sources and directions. We have built strong foundations for the energy security of the Polish economy, prepared for the challenges of the future, ready to adapt to global changes in the energy sector and the ever greater importance of renewable energy sources, highlighted Wojciech Wrochna, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.
The facility expansion program was divided into two phases. The first consisted in increasing the operating parameters of the existing regasification plant by means of two additional SCVs (Submerged Combustion Vaporisers) and a metering skid. As a result of these improvements, the terminal could provide regasification capacity of 6.2 bcm.- The LNG terminal in Świnoujście, Poland's gas gateway to the world is an important step towards the actual diversification of gas supply sources to Poland. Today, the facility has gained additional regasification capacity and new functionalities. All that enhances our energy security and provides greater access to competitive natural gas markets around the world. The project was implemented in the difficult pandemic times and in the period of the war just across our border; that is why I particularly appreciate the efforts of all GAZ-SYSTEM employees involved, as well as the institutions and authorities participating in the expansion project, and all those who have contributed to its successful completion,’ added Sławomir Hinc, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The second phase of expansion involved the construction of a third tank and a second jetty for the unloading, loading and bunkering of LNG, together with a transmission pipeline connecting the jetty devices to the new tank. These facilities were designed to improve the flexibility of the Terminal's operation and increase its operational capacity, including receiving larger volumes of LNG and provision of bunkering service consisting in refuelling vessels with LNG directly at the jetty. By means of these additional facilities, the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście reached the annual regasification capacity of 8.3 billion cubic meters.
The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority was in charge of development of hydroengineering part of the jetty encompassing the vessel loading berth, offshore transmission facilities and mooring infrastructure.
The expansion of the Polish LNG Terminal is included in the European list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI), comprising investment projects of particular importance for increasing the security and diversification of natural gas supply to Europe, as well as other initiatives contributing to the achievement of EU energy and climate goals.
The expansion project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020 with the grant amounting to approx. PLN 461 million.
