On 14 March in Bratislava a meeting was held with the representatives of the management boards of GAZ-SYSTEM and the Slovak company SPP and Peter Gerhart, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. The participants discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation to strengthen the security of gas supply to both countries and the possibility for Slovakia to access LNG supplies.

Increasing gas transmission capacity across the CEE region and effective use of existing cross-border interconnections constitute the priorities for both GAZ-SYSTEM as the gas Transmission System Operator and the operator of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, and SPP - the main natural gas distributor in Slovakia.

During the meeting in Bratislava, the parties discussed new areas of cooperation related primarily to LNG supplies to Slovakia, in particular from the FSRU terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk planned by GAZ-SYSTEM.

The FSRU programme is included in the European policy of ensuring economy development stability through new sources of gaseous fuel imports to Poland. This policy was developed in response to the growing demand for diversification of natural gas supply sources based on LNG across the entire CEE region including Slovakia. Cross-border cooperation aimed at providing Slovakia and the remaining part of the region with access to LNG supplies is of strategic importance for GAZ-SYSTEM.

GAZ-SYSTEM is currently conducting a non-binding market screening procedure to assess the demand for additional regasification capacity at the FSRU terminal in Gdańsk.
