GAZ-SYSTEM and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) discussed in Warsaw the issues related to natural gas transmission through the infrastructure in both countries in order to enhance energy security in the region. The topics of future cooperation between the two companies in the area of hydrogen and biomethane were also raised.

On 15th March, at the conference “Polish-Ukrainian Partnership to Build Future Energy Security” organised under the patronage of the Prime Minister and the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, the representatives of Polish and Ukrainian companies responsible for the transmission of natural gas, oil and electricity as well as generation of nuclear energy discussed how to develop cooperation between the two countries at present and in the future to build energy security in the region and in the field of new energy sources. The aim of the conference was to initiate and coordinate the activities of the leading energy transmission operators of Poland and Ukraine.

In the context of the natural gas segment, possible measures were discussed to further develop an integrated natural gas market and, inter alia, to decarbonise the transmission infrastructure managed by GAZ-SYSTEM and GTSOU.

- GAZ-SYSTEM, hand in hand with GTSOU – the operator of the gas transmission network in Ukraine, have been actively cooperating for many years to stimulate cross-border exchange between Poland and Ukraine. After the supply of Russian gas through Ukraine was stopped, we took steps to launch continuous gas transmission towards Ukraine and to date we have been providing capacity according to the requirements and capabilities of our transmission system. We support our partner on the EU forum and exchange our experiences. We are looking ahead and want to work together to build a strong natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen market in the region which could also serve the needs of other countries with which we have interconnectors," – said Marcin Chludziński, President of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The conference was held in Warsaw and the participants included Mateusz Morawiecki – Prime Minister, Anna Moskwa – Minister of Climate and Environment and Mateusz Berger – Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure. The Ukrainian government was represented, among others, by Vasyl Zwarych – Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Mykola Kolisnyk and Yuliia Pidkomorna – Deputy Ministers of Energy. Board members of companies supervised by Minister Mateusz Berger (GAZ-SYSTEM S.A., PERN S.A., PSE S.A. and PEJ Sp. z o.o.) and Ukrainian companies operating in corresponding areas participated in panel discussions.
