GAZ-SYSTEM awarded EU funding for Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster project
The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) granted EU financial support to the Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster project under the ”CEF Cross-border Renewable Energy” instrument.
For this purpose, GAZ-SYSTEM established cooperation with PNE AG, its subsidiary Sevivon Sp. z o.o. and a German transmission system operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH to analyse the potential for the development of hydrogen infrastructure in North-West Poland and North-East Germany.
Under the "CEF ENERGY” programme, the European Commission launched a new category of cross-border projects in renewable energy eligible for co-financing under the recently established EU instrument (CEF Cross-border Renewable Energy Programme). At the beginning of 2024, following the conclusion of the grant competition, the companies mentioned above applied for funding for the business analysis and studies for the Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster project which was favourably recognised by the CINEA. The action which was awarded EUR 190,000 involves a feasibility study for the project and an assessment of the viability and conditions for the development of a hydrogen network in the German-Polish border area. The purpose of those activities is to enhance and optimise national efforts towards the production and use of renewable energy.
GAZ-SYSTEM is currently conducting its individual market screening project - Hydrogen Map of Poland with the view to assessing the interest in hydrogen transport through the transmission network connecting domestic hydrogen producers, import sources, hydrogen storage facilities, end consumers, and local distribution networks.
In addition, GAZ-SYSTEM continues market dialogue regarding the feasibility of other hydrogen projects also in cross-border perspective such as the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor which was granted the PCI status (Project of Common Interest). The proposed hydrogen corridor linking Finland, the Baltic States, Poland and Germany, together with the new initiative - the Pomeranian Green Hydrogen Cluster, constitute a comprehensive regional endeavour to explore the feasibility of a cross-border hydrogen network that will enable the transmission of renewable hydrogen between the countries in the Baltic region.
