The 308-km Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline connects the gas compressor station in Gustorzyn (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province) with the compressor station in Wronów (Lubelskie Province). It is the longest pipeline construction project completed by the Company this year. It runs through four provinces: Kujawsko-pomorskie, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie and Lubelskie. The pipeline will supply natural gas to central Poland, increase the flexibility of the transmission system and provide an opportunity for more entities to connect to GAZ-SYSTEM’s transmission network.

Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline will enable flexible control of gas flow to central and southern Poland. In the future, it will also allow gas transmission from the FSRU Terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk. The project will ensure continuity and security of gas supply to the residents of Warsaw, Łódź and Radom urban areas. Completion of this project will make it possible for Polska Spółka Gazownicta, the largest gas distribution system operator in Poland, to create new connections to the national transmission system. GAZ-SYSTEM has already signed two connection agreements in Mazowieckie Province: Radom-Stary Gózd and Pszczonów. Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline will also enable gas supply to the power plant in Kozienice.

– Well-developed transport infrastructure providing unimpeded access to energy sources is fundamental to the security and smooth functioning of the state. Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline represents a strategic 308-km long component of the transmission infrastructure in the central part of the country. In this way, the present government continues to establish Poland's prominent position in the region. Owing to GAZ-SYSTEM’s investments such as the already operational gas interconnectors with Denmark, Lithuania and Slovakia, the increase in regasification capacity at the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście and the nascent FSRU LNG Terminal in Gdańsk, we are becoming a gas hub for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Consistency in the actions of the present government of the Republic of Poland guarantees the country's economic growth and the well-being of its citizens – stressed Anna Moskwa, Minister of Climate and Environment.

– The government's strategy and the resulting actions of state-owned companies, such as GAZ- SYSTEM, aim at creating conditions allowing Poland to develop economy model based on sustainable development and complete energy independence. We want our national energy system to be flexible, based on several energy sources and thus resilient to external factors. It is our ultimate goal to provide the energy necessary for economic development and increasing market competitiveness by securing energy resources for many years to come – said Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.

– Completion of the investment project we are celebrating today is the result of the consistently implemented expansion of the Polish transmission system. Construction of Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline will provide central and eastern Poland with better access to a reliable source of energy, which is a driving force for the development of industry and the commercial energy sector. GAZ-SYSTEM's network not only satisfies current needs but will also meet market expectations in the coming decades. The Company wants to utilise the transmission infrastructure cost-effectively and, by supporting regional development, build an advantage for the Polish economy said Marcin Chludziński, President of GAZ-SYSTEM.

The construction project completion was officially celebrated in Wronów Field Operations Unit. Participating guests included: Marek Suski – Member of Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Climate and State Assets; Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska – Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure and Wojciech Wysocki – representative of the European Commission in Poland. According to the work schedule, the entire gas pipeline will be handed over for operation by the end of this year.

Gustorzyn-Wronów otwarcieGustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline development included the construction of 308 km of gas pipeline divided into three stages:
  • STAGE I – Gustorzyn-Leśniewice section: 54 km,
  • STAGE II – Leśniewice-Rawa Mazowiecka section: 100 km,
  • STAGE III – Rawa Mazowiecka-Wronów section: 154 km.
The investment project commenced in 2021 and GAZ-SYSTEM secured delivery of pipes for the entire Gustorzyn-Wronów pipeline as investor provided items. Construction work started at the beginning of 2022. The pipeline diameter is 1,000 mm with the maximum operating pressure of 8.4 MPa.

The European Commission has granted it the status of 'Project of Common Interest’ (PCI).  The European Union's co-funding for Gustorzyn-Wronów gas pipeline has totalled over PLN 700 million under REACT-EU and the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020. The project's objective was to build 308 km of gas pipeline.
